Our Responsibility Too?
"And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace." -- Paul in Acts My question is this? Is it our responsiblity as well to "testify to the gospel of God's grace?" Or was this just a special calling from the Lord Jesus Christ on Paul's life to take this Gospel to Jews & Gentiles in the 1st Century? If this is our responsibility, how would our lives be different if we truly "considered our lives worth nothing?" I sense in Paul's statement something powerful -- telling others about the amazing grace of God was THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN HIS LIFE. Nothing compared! That's why he didn't care about his life. He didn't care if he was whipped, beaten & bloodied, thrown in prison, etc. His life was nothing. He was an ambassador of an amazing message -- God's grace covers all sins! I'm shamed to say that i "testify to God's grace" out of convenience and safety. I believe in the grace of God, but only share it with others when the setting is such that no real risk or harm is a possibility. I find my priorities do not line up the way Paul's did. I consider my life and the earthly pleasures I fill it with far more valuable than proclaiming the good news. I wonder what our world would look like if saints would rise up and say with their lips and believe in their hearts that "my life is worth nothing to me if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me -- the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace."
